Dear Producer held its first-ever webinar on Friday, April 3, with over 800 attendees. But if you weren’t able to make it, you can now watch the replay below, closed captions included.
I specifically call out closed captions because as I’ve been watching webinars by major arts non-profits and festivals (you know who you are), I've notice that most are not providing closed captions. Live closed captions or a live sign language interprerter can be expensive and complicated, I did not provide them live. However, there is no excuse for not having closed captions available for the replays or pre-recorded interviews, which these organizations are not doing. You cannot have inclusion in your mission statement and then not offer closed captions for your resources. If my one-man band can manage to turn them around in 48-hours and spend the $75 to have them created, so can you.
If you or your organization is creating a webinar or video and do not know how to create closed captions, please contact any producer - captions are a required delivery element by distributors and we’ve all done them. Hats off to IDA / ITVS / Firelight for having a sign language interpreter live on screen for their Applying for Federal Coronavirus Relief as a Filmmaker webinar.
(Steps off soapbox)
Small note, I had thought the recording would show in gallery view so it felt like a real panel, as you could watch it while live, but apparently I did not check that box in Zoom. This is my first webinar and I’m still learning and will fix for the next one.
Many thanks to panelists Effie Brown, Avril Speaks, and Kelly Williams for giving their time and knowledge and for the honest and uplifting conversation that brought much joy to others.
Stay safe, stay home, and keep going,
Rebecca
